Mercer Island homes
Original mid-century baths
Many Mercer Island homes date from the mid-century building years, and some still have original baths: small colored tile, a recessed tub, and walls that may hide older layers of mortar.
Andzhei opens those rooms with care, checks what the old tile sits on, and plans a new layout that fits the house. He sets the tile himself. A site visit comes first, so scope and price are clear before demo. Plumbing and electrical work goes to licensed trades.
Tile layout, materials, and cost questions are covered on the bathroom tile page.

Lake-view baths
Showers that suit the light
Lake-view homes get strong side light, and big windows show every uneven joint. I plan the tile size and layout around that light, and the shower is waterproofed as one system before tile.

Older walls are rarely flat. Flattening and prep come first, so long lines read straight once the light hits them.
Keep the mid-century look? Some owners keep a period feel with simple tile and clean lines. Others want a fully new room. That gets settled on the visit.

How I work
Access and prep come first
Island streets are often narrow and lots can be steep. A bathroom remodel here starts with access, parking, and where material can be staged, all set on the visit.

FAQ
Mercer Island bath questions
Can you work on a steep or narrow lot?
Usually, yes. Access, parking, and staging get planned on the visit. Call (425) 737-8064 if access is a concern.
What about old tile on mortar beds?
Older baths sometimes have thick mortar under the tile. Removal takes longer, and that is priced after the visit, not guessed.
Is this a full renovation?
It can be. If the room comes down to the studs, see full renovation of the bathroom. Plumbing and electrical moves go to licensed trades.
What tile works with strong window light?
Matte or soft-finish tile hides small surface waves better than gloss. I check the light on the visit before choosing.
